​Nashville to host 25th Anniversary C&D World

 The only event that focuses on recycling North America's largest material stream is happening Feb. 10-13 in Nashville. C&D World 2018 is the place where the construction and demolition industry comes together to learn about, discuss, and solve the industry's issues. Even more special, the 2018 edition is the 25^th anniversary of this popular meeting.

 The event, to be held at the Hilton Nashville, steps from the famous Broadway Street, serves as the Annual Meeting of the C&D Recycling Association, which organizes the exhibit hall and the information sessions that are the heart of the show. As this is the Silver Anniversary, the CDRA has gathered C&D World's best program ever, including having two keynote speakers:

 • Barnes Johnson, Director, Office of Resource Conservation and Recovery (formerly Solid Waste), U.S. EPA. Mr. Johnson is the top EPA staff member overseeing solid waste and recycling. His views help form agency policy, and he will provide attendees guidance on what the agency will be doing on recycling issues in the next few years;

 • Ed Sullivan, Chief Economist, Portland Cement Association. Mr. Sullivan is the foremost prognosticator of the construction industry, and his on-target economic predictions at previous C&D Worlds have helped attendees better plan their businesses' future.

 Of course, the rest of the program is full of presentations from industry experts that will provide information pertinent to C&D businesses, such as Better Equipment Management; Handling pH in Recycled Concrete; Biomass Markets; C&D Fines Opportunities; Legislative and Regulatory Update; Social Media Use in the Recycling Market; Succession Planning; and a LEED Update.

 New this year is a Virtual Tour that will provide attendees video overviews of some of the top mixed C&D and concrete recycling operations in the United States. This is a great opportunity for attendees to take a peek into successful operations from across the country.

 A well designed exhibit hall will again be a part of C&D World 2018, where attendees will be able to mix with top industry vendors in an intimate setting. Of course, no C&D World is complete without the Monday night fundraiser. The site for the 2018 fundraiser is the same as the memorable 2015 event in Nashville, the Honky Tonk Central on exciting Broadway Street.

CDRA to present industry's highest honours at 2018 event

 The highest honors in the C&D recycling industry are the awards from the C&D Recycling Association. The nomination process is currently open for the 2018 edition of the awards, and we would like to hear who you think is worthy of this spotlight. Specifically, the CDRA is seeking nominations in two categories:

 C&D Recycling Hall of Fame

This institution is to honor those prominent leaders and pioneers in the Construction and Demolition Recycling industry who have made an extraordinary contribution to the industry and who have earned the respect of the industry. Additionally, to honor those who have made an extraordinary contribution to their community, both personally and professionally. To recognize the achievements of those who have shown, by their example, the importance of promoting and defending the environmentally sound recycling of Construction and Demolition material through innovative processes along with encouraging and supporting others to build a career in the Construction and Demolition Recycling Industry.

To recognize leadership in advocating for the environmentally sound practices with the regulating agencies and legislative bodies governing waste regulations.

Candidates for the Hall of Fame:

• Must exemplify leadership; defined as outstanding and enduring contributions to the success of the industry and to improving the processes, efficiencies and/or the human relations of the industry in an active capacity for a minimum of 10 years.
• Business actions and personal behavior should demonstrate courageous thinking and actions as well as vision and innovation.
• Candidates can come from the industry as an owner, operator or vendor.

  C&D Recycler of the Year

The Operator of the Year is meant to honor those Recycling Operations in the Construction and Demolition Recycling industry who have made an extraordinary contribution to the industry through the one or more of the following criteria:

• Advancing business operations that result in increased recycling percentages
• Developing novel methods of marketing and conducting business
• Innovative practices in employer-employee relations
• Ensuring safer operations
• Protecting the environment
• Developing industry standards

New CDRA Safety Awards—Another Way Members Can Show Leadership!

The CDRA is also  rolling out a new awards program to recognize the companies taking the most steps toward safety in the C&D industry, with winners to be announced at C&D World 2018. They will be recognized for leadership in a very important part of running a recycling operation: safety. Having the best practices is not only beneficial for keeping your employees safe, it can also help your business save money. Best safety practices should be a topic of interest for employers and employees alike. In order to be eligible to participate, companies must fill out and submit an application form to the CDRA Risk Management Committee. The committee will review and determine the winners. CDRA Risk Management Committee Chair John Schumacher will host a webinar explaining the awards application process. We recommend anyone interested in applying to attend the webinar. In addition, simply filling out the application/score worksheet will give companies a better understanding of where they excel and where they need to improve their safety practices.
