Buffalo Turbine Introduces Newly Designed Monsoon Diesel

Diesel option sets new benchmark to achieve cost-effective environmental compliance

To further reduce a contractor's associated cost with environmental regulation compliance and increase productivity, Buffalo Turbine adds an all-new, self-contained, Monsoon Diesel to their industry leading line of Monsoon dust control misting systems.

Powering the Buffalo Turbine Monsoon Diesel is a Tier 4 compliant 26.5HP Kohler 3-cylinder diesel engine. Built for industrial and commercial use, the diesel engine features liquid cooling, dual air cleaners and both heat and oil safety shut offs. The overall cost savings and some long term benefits recognized by choosing the Monsoon Diesel include:

  • Up to 15% greater efficiency
  • Up to twice the engine lifespan
  • Common job site fuel

The Buffalo Turbine Monsoon Diesel features a compact, easily maneuverable three-wheel off-highway trailer and common ¾" connection which can adapt to most standard municipal water supply for fast job site set up. Once operational the standard wireless remote will control both nozzle and throttle function. Also available is a 270 degree oscillation feature that can be turned on/off at the machine. This allows the nozzle to rotate up to 270 degrees on a vertical plane. Dual six gallon fuel tanks extend run time to 8 hours or more. To keep focused on the job at hand, the Buffalo Turbine proprietary single stage turbine blower and gyratory atomizing nozzle (GAN) eliminates costly downtime and maintenance associated with common spray nozzles used by the dust control misting system competitors.

Seven steps to effective briquetting in C&D and MRF applications

Briquettes made from a mix of wood, plastic, etc., are generally used in gasifiers.

The following are seven steps in a typical system for shredding and briquetting old pallets and other types of demolition stream waste wood.

  • Storing Raw Material: Old pallets and waste wood from demolition streams needs to be stored out of the elements to keep it dry. Coloured pallets should be sorted out.
  • Shredding: Raw material is fed into a shredder for size reduction.
  • Sorting: Shredded raw material is conveyed past one of several magnet separators for sorting of nails. An adjustable gap between the transport belt and the vacuum inlet for the hammer mill ensures that nails that have not been sorted out by the magnet separator will fall down and not be sucked into the hammer mill.
  • Hammermill: The raw material passes through a hammermill before going into a large storage silo.
  • Storing processed material: A large storage silo is used to contain shredded and milled raw material. In a 400-cubic metre silo, at the bottom of the silo there is room for two briquetting presses.
  • Briquetting: From manufacturer, C.F. Nielsen, two model BP5500 briquetters, positioned in the silo, will produce a total of approx. 2.5 tons of briquettes per hour. The presses can run unmanned around the clock in a silo that is 400 cubic metres in size.
  • Briquette storage: Briquettes are placed in a pile coming directly from the briquetting presses via the cooling lines. Briquettes allow for maximum bulk density, for storage, handling and transport.

Chinese guidelines updated for scrap exporters

Chinese guidelines updated for scrap exporters

According to a member-update from the Canadian Association of Recycling Industries (CARI) China's Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), has provided new guidelines for exporters and suppliers who are applying for export permits to ship scrap into China.  These changes will come into effect on February 1st, 2018.   The new guidelines include a few key changes:

  1. Applicants must follow China's environmental control standards by complying with their contaminants thresholds.
  1. Exporters' facilities must have radiation detection equipment.
  1. The China Certification and Inspection Group (CCIC) will no longer be the sole approved pre-shipment inspection company. Third-party companies may apply to receive a licence from AQSIQ to conduct pre-shipment inspections. These companies will share the liability if material approved before shipping is rejected once it reaches a Chinese port.

Is the recycling industry facing a fire epidemic?

Is the recycling industry facing a fire epidemic?

There is certainly no simple answer to the question: is there a fire epidemic facing the recycling industry? But it is an issue that needs addressing. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines an epidemic "as an outbreak or product of sudden rapid spread, growth or development." Although we have been faced with facility fires in the waste and recycling industry for years, we are just now seeing the real extent of the problem.
